El Salvador Day 3

March 12, 2007, Day 3 of Santa Elena Mission Work 2007

Another good day in the neighborhood. It was warm but not terribly hot if you were in the shade. We good started on time, almost. Dennis Buchanan delivered the message at devo and did a great job. That, of course, was after a tremendous breakfast by the Travis cook corps TCC).

The clinic opened on time with the evangelistic team departing on schedule. I keep waiting for the big bumps, but none so far. The crowd at the clinic has been much smaller than in previous years. We had two theories on this at the end of the day on Sunday. One was that the word had not gotten out about the clinic. After the second straight day of light turnout we are now suspecting that the reason is that there is no doctor, nor dentist, nor much in medications. While we had a good smooth day and served a little over two hundred, that is a far cry from the 400-500 per day we have served in the past. I am afraid that being flexible means being slammed next week, but we will see.

Jack will get the numbers reported in the morning, but I suspect that all will be up from Sunday with the possible exception of the teen class. We were thrilled to see the handicapped man back for more teaching tonight as well as one going forward for prayers. To cap the night off Evelyn came to the services after being estranged from the church and her friend Sulma. It was quite a tearful reunion with her brothers and sisters in Christ.

We also were able to renew our friendship with Miseal and obtained his assistance in getting a letter to get us in the school. He has been a great friend of the work here since our first trip to Usulutan. I only pray that some day we will be able to reach him spiritually.

Another fine meal by TCC completed a great day. After a little fellowship it is time to turn in. Almost...

...It is a tribute to our team and the occupants of a half a dozen rooms that none of them complained about being moved at 9 pm on Sunday nor about Jack and me knocking on the wrong door at 6 am nor none of our teammates were more than 45 seconds late for devo on Monday. Evidently the hotel needed to move some folks around on Sunday night and jack didn't know until he found a list from Victor showing the relocations. Even the info that Victor had was incorrect. After a while we sorted things out and hopefully will awaken the correct people in the morning.

Hopefully tomorrow will be another successful day for the evangelistic efforts. We plan to move some folks around to get some new experiences. Most importantly we will reach out to more people to tell them about Jesus and bring them closer to their Savior.

Hey guys - Here is a message from David Burka:

Greetings from TENNESSEE. That sounds so good, lets say it together.... TENNESSEE.

Home always sounds good when you are miles away.

Peter tells us "to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, RESERVED in heaven for you..."

You are serving a GOD who has a permanent reservation for you in heaven...Wow, that sounds even better than TENNESSEE!!

God Bless you for your good work,

David Burka

Congratulations – You beat the Pope to Latin America. :-)

VATICAN CITY (AP) -- Pope Benedict XVI will make his first trip to Latin America in May, a visit to Brazil to address the region's Roman Catholic bishops, the Vatican said Friday.
The pope will depart from Rome, Italy, on May 9 and remain in Sao Paulo, Brazil, until May 11, when he goes to the city of Aparecida to open once-a-decade meeting of the Episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Hope everyone is doing well. We were excited to hear about the accomplishments this week. We will continue to keep you in our prayers.
