El Salvador work 2007 Post One

In January of 2001 Mount Juliet church of Christ had been working in Latin America primarily in Panama through Forrest Park church of Christ in Valdosta, GA, for a number of years and we were looking for a specific work to concentrate our efforts. There was an earthquake in El Salvador that did extensive damage throughout the country and we took our first Medical Mission Team to San Augustin that year. Since then we have done work in San Francisco Javier, Usulutan, San Salvador and Santa Elena in addition to San Augustin.

This year we are returning to Santa Elena to work with the congregation in that town. You can find Santa Elena using Google Earth as well as Usulutan and San Salvador. San Augustin and San Francisco are in the same area (eastern El Salvador in the Usulutan department between the volcano range and the ocean.

As I write this on Thursday afternoon, March 8, 3 of our team members are already there: Bill Staggs and Jack Farber flew out on Monday and Penn Little left yesterday. On Friday Wendy Graham, Ronnie Travis and Dennis "Buck" Buchanan head out to prepare the site for the first team to arrive.

On Saturday, March 10, the week 1 crew of nearly 50 folks head down to El Salvador, with a planned arrival around midday on Saturday. Most will return on Saturday, March 17, when the second team comes down for their week ending on March 24.

There are a total of 33 members of Mount Juliet on this trip plus folks from Franklin, KY, and Hendersonville churches of Christ. We will be joined by members from GA, West Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, OK, MO and CT. We will also be joined by brothers and sisters from El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama to translate, teach and preach.

Our plans are to conduct a 2 week medical and evangelistic campaign, treating the local people physically and spiritually. This will be similar to previous campaigns, but entirely different. We will use our nursing staff to screen patients the first week and then the doctors and dentists come the second week to treat the patients who need their care.

Jack plans to update his blog at www.panamajack.org during the campaign as I do this one. However, I'll need to use his technology to do that so you might find it best to visit both sites for ino.

Considering that I haven't started packing yet, I had best end this and get busy. Please pray for our trip and the people of El Salvador.

Buddy
